FAQS

Trusteer Rapport is an online fraud and identity theft protection software developed by IBM® to protect you against malware. This is what the software does:

  • Helps to block and remove malicious financial malware from cybercriminals that your anti-virus software may not detect
  • Alerts you if you visit a fake BIBPlus website
  • Helps to prevent financial malware and fraudulent websites from stealing your user ID, passwords and other sensitive information

Trusteer Rapport is entirely transparent and does not require you to change the way you work or sign into BIBPlus. It does not require any configuration or maintenance; you simply install and browse safely. It further protects specific identities and sessions. Please visit IBM® Security Trusteer Rapport™ to find out more.

Trusteer Rapport is an added layer of security against malware that your anti-virus software may not detect. Trusteer Rapport protects against:

Phishing

A phishing attack is when the attacker builds a phony website (the phishing site) that looks exactly like a website you know and trust (for example your bank's website). The attacker then lures you to visit the phishing website (for example by sending you a fraudulent email). When you arrive at the phishing website you mistakenly believe that this is the real website. As soon as you try to sign into the phishing website, the attacker grabs your login credentials and can use them to login to the real website, impersonate you and initiate fraudulent transactions.

Pharming

A pharming attack is when the attacker causes your computer to go to the fraudulent website each time you type a real website's name in your web browser address bar. The attack accomplishes this using various techniques such as infecting your desktop with malware or by compromising servers in your ISP's network. Once you arrive at the fraudulent website and try to sign in, the attacker grabs your login credentials and can now use them to login to the real website, impersonate you and initiate fraudulent transactions.

Keyloggers

A keylogger is a malicious software that hides itself inside your computer. The keylogger records keystrokes (i.e. each time you type something on the keyboard) and then sends this information to the attacker. By grabbing your sign-in credentials and other sensitive information and sending them to an attacker, keyloggers enable an attacker to login to your accounts, impersonate you and initiate fraudulent transactions.

Man-in-the-middle

Man-in-the-middle is an advanced variation of Phishing and Pharming attacks. In this particular attack you sign into the website and start working entirely unaware that all the information exchanged between you and the website is being passed on to the attacker. The attacker can view any private information and can alter your transactions. For example, if you request to transfer a certain amount of money to a specific payee, the attacker can change the payee's identity and have the money transferred to a different account.

Man-in-the-browser

Man-in-the-Browser is malware that resides inside your browser in the form of an add-on (e.g. toolbar, BHO, browser plug-in). This malware controls everything that happens inside your browser. It is capable of reading sensitive information such as your sign-in credentials and passing them to the attacker. It can also generate transactions on your behalf, such as transferring money from your account to the attacker's account.

Screen capturing

Screen capturing refers to malware that takes pictures of your computer screen and sends them to the attacker. Screen shots can include your account details, balance, and even credentials when the website uses keypads for login.

Session hijacking

Session hijacking refers to malware that steals your session parameters with a specific website and sends this information to the attacker. These session parameters can then be used by the attacker to take over your session with the website and to bypass the authentication process that is required to log into the website.

There is no limit. You may install Trusteer Rapport on as many compatible Windows or Mac OS computers as you like.

If a financial malware is identified on your computer, Trusteer Rapport will block the threat and attempt to remove it. UOB will then receive an automated notification that malicious activity was identified. Depending on the criticality of the threat, under certain circumstances, UOB may reach out to you directly, temporarily disable the Online Banking account, and/or require a password change to help prevent loss.

Trusteer Rapport does not replace your antivirus and is not an antivirus solution. It works differently and prevents attacks that your antivirus solution cannot detect or remove. Antivirus and Trusteer Rapport are two complementary security layers and it is strongly recommended to use both for maximum protection.

Trusteer Rapport scans and detects financial malware on your computer. Trusteer Rapport may remove or block the malware from accessing sensitive information. Removing malware can damage the computer and often the malware simply re-installs itself; however, when the malware is blocked it remains on the computer, but no longer poses a threat.

Yes, if you are attempting to install Trusteer Rapport on a business computer, you may need to contact your IT department to complete the process.

Once you install Trusteer Rapport, its default setting is to start automatically when you log on to your computer. This serves to best protect you at all times, and no manual steps beyond installation are required on your part.

Yes, Trusteer Rapport automatically applies small security and software updates. As long as Trusteer Rapport’s automatic software updates are enabled, you will be fully protected and no further action is required. Security updates are applied immediately and software updates are applied after reboot when the operating system starts up. It is a good practice to always reboot your computer after a software update.

Trusteer Rapport will only collect the encrypted BIBPlus Company ID (which can only be decrypted by UOB), as well as certain basic information about the computer such as IP address and the current Trusteer Rapport installation. Trusteer Rapport does not collect banking information such as your account number or financial transaction details.
