Direct debit enables you to directly collect funds from your customers’ bank accounts maintained with any bank participating in the FAST or GIRO payment clearing network in Singapore.
For GIRO direct debits, funds will only be credited to your UOB account one day after the value date, which is in line with the industry GIRO clearing cycle. FAST direct debits allow you to collect funds from your payers almost instantly and on 24 x 7 basis.
Please note that FAST direct debits are subject to the industry transaction limit of SGD200,000 per debit item.
You would need to subscribe to our collection services to be able to transmit your collection instructions via our suite of electronic banking channels - UOB Infinity, Regional File Transfer Services (host-to-host), API Services or SWIFT FileAct.
Prior to initiating direct debits, your payer must set up a direct debit authorisation (DDA) arrangement with you on a one-time basis, which must also be confirmed by the payer’s designated bank.
We offer the following solutions to assist you with setting up new direct debit arrangements with your payers:
a. eGIRO: This digital service enables your payers to complete their DDA setups online and within minutes, using their eligible UOB accounts or accounts held with any other eGIRO participating bank via a single platform and single connectivity.
b. eDDA via API: This is an API-based solution allowing your payers with UOB accounts to submit GIRO applications through your website or mobile app, and approve instantly via the UOB TMRW mobile banking app.
c. Online DDA: Allows your payers with UOB accounts to submit their GIRO applications seamlessly via the UOB Personal Internet Banking portal. GIRO applications are then transmitted to you for approval via UOB’s host-to-host channel.
d. DDA paper application form: This is the traditional method of setting up direct debit arrangements. UOB can provide you with an industry-standard DDA application form template for your use, which can be adapted to suit your own required specifications. We can further assist to review the customised form before this is finalised and provided to payers. The completed forms are then processed by the payers’ respective banks to set up the DDAs accordingly.
For direct debit instructions transmitted via UOB Infinity, Regional File Transfer Services (host-to-host) or SWIFT FileAct, the Bank provides collection status reports to enable you to reconcile the direct debit transactions accordingly. For collection instructions triggered via API, the collection status will be similarly returned via API near instantly.
