As picked by Andrea: Deals for Mums-To-Be

< Back to Articles By UOB Cards x The DC Edit

I am a very enthusiastic mum-to-be. So enthusiastic that I started preparing for my firstborn’s arrival when I was 3 months pregnant. I’m currently in my sixth month of pregnancy, so you can imagine how many items I’ve already bought and prepped. Here’s a list of some items that I’ve gotten for my nursery, or have my eyes set on. This post is written in collaboration with ShopUOB, so UOB Cardmembers, take note of the accompanying deals below!

During the course of my preparation, I’ve consulted a lot of my mum friends about what I should and should not get. I listen to their advice diligently because clearly, they’ve tried and tested it on their own children, so if they recommend it, I’ll get it!

Handmade Heroes for Baby Bodycare:

Handmade Heroes

The DC Team featured local beauty brand Handmade Heroes in our Local Beauty Edit 2020, and what I love about this brand is that it is all-natural, vegan and clean. Having met the founders digitally, I know they are very passionate about the ingredients they source for their products and are very careful with their formulation process. They have a dedicated Mother & Baby range, which features products like Nursing and Diaper Balm. The diaper balm is made with calendula extract and zinc oxide to keep your baby’s skin soft after every nappy change!

Taobao for Maternity Wear:

maternity pants

Fitting into my bottoms became a difficulty from my fourth month of pregnancy, so I turned to local online stores like Love, Bonito for maternity shorts. But I also missed the feeling of culottes and trousers. And given that my current online shopping philosophy is “If I can’t find it in Singapore, Taobao it”, I Google-translated “Maternity Pants” into Mandarin (孕妇裤), and found so many Taobao shops that are dedicated to selling maternity wear. Talk about heaven sent!

Taobao for Nursery Decor:

mosquito net crib

I live in a dengue hotspot unfortunately, and my dad gets paranoid when he thinks about mosquitoes and the baby (funnily enough, my dad is the one trying to babyproof the house, not me). He has been pestering me to get a mosquito net to surround the cot, and I couldn’t find one that I liked in Singapore. I searched “Mosquito Net Crib” (蚊帐婴儿床) on Taobao and found a free-standing net that matches the crib I ordered! It’s a design that’s not readily available in Singapore, and I could choose from various colours – all for less than S$60, shipping included. The net arrived within 2 weeks upon my order – very speedy!

Shopee for Baby Clothes:

baby mittens

My second shopping philosophy: “There’s always a more affordable alternative on Shopee”. While I do enjoy the feeling of the soft premium bamboo cotton onesies and mittens for my baby, purchasing 5 – 10 sets of them for weekly use can be costly. Plus, babies outgrow their clothing so quickly so it’s best to find options that are affordable and of decent quality. I found these solid-coloured cotton newborn mittens and socks from Shopee, and I’m so glad I found them because I’m very particular about the prints and designs on baby clothing. It’s hard to find mittens and socks in a design I like (sorry Ezzie, mum will decide what you wear till you’re 21). You can definitely find more options – design and price-wise – for bath towels, onesies and swaddles on Shopee. There’s also a Shopee Mum’s Club you can sign up for, and the club extends exclusive vouchers every month for members!

Shop at Shopee and enjoy up to 10% rebate with UOB One Credit Card or 3% rebate with UOB One Debit Card. With UOB One Cards, you’ll also enjoy exclusive Shopee privileges like special discount on Big Campaign Days, exclusive deals on s-mart and Super Brand Days as well as promotions on pre-launch products! iShopChangi.com for Skincare and Bodycare for Mums:

Clarins

I’ve also recently announced that I’ll be partnering with Clarins to exclusively represent their maternity bodycare range – I’ve been using their Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil (Firming) and Clarins Body Partner Stretch Mark Expert Cream daily ever since I was 3 months along. So far so good – my skin has been stretching and needs moisture more often now that I’m pregnant – so these two items have been lifesavers! iShopChangi.com is also a good place to shop for beauty products (Anti-Aging and Hair care) because they hold regular promotions that you won’t normally find on the brand’s local websites.

Lazada for Nursing Essentials and Nursery Furniture:

Hegen Complete Starter Kit

Heeding my mum-friends’ advice, I’m turning to Hegen for feeding essentials. Hegen comes highly recommended because it has a built-in anti-colic air vent that reduces unwanted air intake. The off-centre teat also promotes upright feeding which reduces the risk of milk back-flow. I got the Hegen Complete Starter Kit because I don’t really want to fuss and think about the different bottles and teats I need to get – since Hegen has assembled an all-you-need starter kit for mums-to-be, I’ll trust them with the kit.

baby bjorn bouncer

Another item that comes recommended is the Baby Bjorn Bouncer – my mum told me that she relied on the bouncer a lot for my youngest brother. My friend and founder of The Closet Lover, Bertilla, also told me she bought two bouncers, and that her baby reacted best to Baby Bjorn. Again, I’m not one to fuss between brands, so I got the Baby Bjorn Bouncer Bliss Mesh – I chose the mesh design because of Singapore’s weather.

These are just some of the items I’ve prepared so far – I am trying not to get too many of the same things (for example, since I already got a UV steriliser, I probably will not buy a steam one). Once a product comes recommended, I’ll attempt to use it as much as I can unless my baby has issues with it.

I hope this article was helpful in helping you decide what you need to get, plus this is such a great time for mums-to-be to do some shopping with all the year-end deals!

Good luck fellow mums-to-be!

Andrea
