In April 2025, UOB and Wee Foundation pledged S$110 million to Nanyang Technological University (NTU). With government matching, the gift will create an endowment of up to S$275 million, supporting new education initiatives, and honouring the legacy of the late Dr Wee Cho Yaw.
The gift will fund three initiatives:
- NTU Opportunity Grant, providing support for undergraduates with financial needs to live on campus, go on exchanges and pursue out-of-class learning
- Uplift@NTU, a credit-bearing service-learning programme mobilising students to tutor and mentor children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds
- NTU Venture Creation Programme, where high-achieving students work in interdisciplinary teams on real-world problems in areas like AI and sustainability, with seed funding and up to S$100,000 for top teams to scale
Together, these programmes are expected to benefit up to 1,200 NTU students and around 1,500 community beneficiaries each year—a long-term investment in education to do right by our community.
